We all have days where we feel down in the dumps, de-motivated and generally quite negative about life. We can choose to “ride it out” and hope tomorrow is better, or we can do something about it.Here are eight natural wonders you can use to feel happier fast.

Herbs3. Lavender is one of the most effective herbs for boosting mood, relieving stress and depression. Place a lavender sachet under your pillow to take advantage of this wonderful herb. 4. St. John’s Wort has been found to be an effective mood enhancer, but does also have some side effects, including sensitivity to the sun and interactions with prescription medication. Take this herb as a tea for best results. 5. Saffron, a herb which is gram for gram more expensive than gold, has long been used in traditional Persian medicine as a mood enhancer. Saffron is most commonly steeped in medicinal tea and research suggests that it makes serotonin (the feel-good transmitter) more available to the brain. Buying significant amounts of saffron is not a viable option (look how expensive just five grams are), but you can grow some at home. Here is a blog post sharing how you can do that.

Asparagus is a rich source of tryptophan which helps to create serotonin (a feel good neurotransmitter). It is also rich in folate – a vitamin that 50% of individuals suffering from depression are deficient in. 8. Cherry tomatoes are rich in a phytonutrient known as lycopene which helps to stop the build-up of compounds that have been linked to depression. The lycopene is present in the skin of the tomato so cherry tomatoes offer a greater concentration of this nutrient. Opt for organic tomatoes if possible. Next time you need a little lift, don’t just “ride it out”, don’t reach for prescription medication, and instead try using these essential oils, herbs or feel-good foods.
