Beer is definitely a product in hot demand and for obvious reasons, but who would have thought that beer could have important benefits for our hair, too?

Because beer contains high levels of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants, the benefits are only just beginning to be researched and explored by luxury health spas and beauty product manufacturers.

Beer provides excellent nutritional value to the hair and contains as many sought-after ingredients as most other hair care products available.  B vitamins, maltose, sucrose, and protein are just some of the beneficial ingredients that malt, hops, and fermentation bring to the equation.  Beer also contains magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium which make beer an effective hair care ingredient.

  • Beer contains proteins that help repair damaged hair.
  • B vitamins promote growth.
  • Maltose helps to strengthen hair.
  • Sucrose enhances natural shine by tightening hair cuticles.
  • Corn, wheat, and rice protein will boost volume and help hair appear thicker.
  • Beer contains Biotin which is one of the most important vitamins for healthy hair growth. Biotin also helps to prevent dandruff and hair loss
Beer acts as the perfect conditioner for your hair, this natural conditioning agent will help bring that dull and lifeless hair back to life.  Replenish those much needed essential nutrients by using this unusual but effective home hair care remedy once a month, your hair will thank you for it. Beer is best left to hair that’s not colored; it can make color-treated hair feel dry.

Which Beer Is Best?

The brand and quality of the beer does not make any considerable difference to the results you may experience.  So there is definitely no need to break the bank by buying some foreign or exotic overly priced ale.  This is the perfect way to use up those undesirable brands of beer that somehow managed to take up residence in your fridge.  In saying that traditional ales tend to be a little more effective compared to wheat beers simply because of the hops.

It is also suggested that you use dark beer for your hair, such as stout. Biotin is more prevalent in the darker beers so pick up a few bottles of Guinness for maximum effect.

For more effective results it is recommended you use flat beer, leave a bottle open overnight before applying to your hair.  Shampooing before using beer treatments will also further enhance the results.  Those with colored hair should avoid using beer hair treatments as it could potentially further dry out the hair.
