Best Homemade Acne Face Mask Recipes

face mask for acne

Acne is an extremely difficult problem to have; causing embarrassment, teasing, and poor self-image; as well as huge amounts of emotional pain to its victims. There are thousands of treatments for acne available, both prescription and non-prescription, most of which are very expensive. Making this situation even worse is that most of these treatments are ineffective, and the ones that do work reasonably well are likely to have unpleasant side-effects.

(For example, the drug Accutane was an effective treatment, but came with a high human cost. Some of the side-effects included severe depression, psychosis, suicide, and even violent or homicidal behavior. After many deaths linked directly to Accutane, and even more misery caused to the patients that took it and their families, it was finally withdrawn from the market.)

With this situation, it makes sense to look for more natural ways of treating this horrible, sometimes disfiguring disease. Natural treatments such as diet, supplementation, and keeping the face scrupulously clean work as well as (and sometimes better than) most of the expensive treatments available. In addition, natural treatments are much less expensive and don’t have any of the unpleasant consequences that sometimes come with more costly options.

Keeping the face clean is the best way to minimize blemishes and keep the skin clear, and face masks are an important part of keeping the skin clean and healthy. Healthy skin is more resistant to blemishes, and with the right ingredients, the regular use of a face mask will reduce the number of pimples and the severity of scarring from the ones you do get.

Homemade Acne Face Masks Recipes

Strawberry/Honey Yogurt Mask

One of the most common ingredients in over-the-counter acne treatments is salicylic acid, and strawberries are a natural source of this ingredient. Raw, organic honey is antibacterial and healing, as well as moisturizing the skin without adding oils that can attract dirt and contribute to clogging the pores; and yogurt is soothing and healing.

  • 1/4 c. fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 c. raw, organic honey
  • 1/4 c. plain yogurt
Mash the strawberries and mix in the yogurt and honey, stirring until well blended. Spread the mixture on clean, dry skin and wash off with a good quality, non-oily cleanser.

Basic Bentonite Clay Mask

Bentonite clay is soothing and healing to the skin, as well as absorbing toxins and excess oil. The addition of honey adds an antibacterial action.

  • 1/3 C. Bentonite clay
  • 1 tbsp. raw, organic honey
  • enough water to make a smooth paste
Mix the clay and honey, then add enough water to make a thick, smooth paste. Apply to clean, dry skin and rinse off with a steaming washcloth after 15 to 20 minutes.
