How Jojoba Oil Can Help Cure Acne

For anyone who has battled acne prone skin, you are aware of how frustrating it can be to find a good balance between treatment and skin health. There are literally thousands of over the counter and prescription treatments on the market claiming to clear up acne. However most of them use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as their active ingredient. If you’ve ever tried these products, you’ve probably noticed one common side effect; bleached towels. If you have, you should ask yourself what it is doing to your skin if it is bleaching your linens.

Not all acne treatments use such harsh ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to treat acne. There are many natural treatments available on the market as well if you know what to look for. One such product is Jojoba Oil.

Jojoba Oil is derived from the seed of the jojoba plant. Native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, the oil from this common shrub has been used in cosmetic applications for years. Due to its long shelf stability, it outlasts many other oils such as almond oil, coconut oil and castor oil which are also used in this capacity.

It may seem strange to treat acne with an oil based product as it is commonly known that oil clogs pores; however jojoba oil has a unique structure that keeps this from occurring.

Most acne is caused by a build up of what is known as sebum. Sebum is a natural oil our bodies produce which acts as a conditioner and moisturizer for our skin. Too much sebum clogs the pores allowing bacteria to form. As the bacteria begin to infect the clogged area, pus begins to accumulate under the skin causing an inflammation which protrudes outward forming the pimple. Because jojoba is so similar to sebum, it is believed that it can trick the body into thinking there is more sebum causing the body to produce less. It also mixes with the sebum to allow it to flow through the pores at a more consistent rate to reduce the buildup.

In addition, jojoba helps to moisture and balances your skin keeping it strong and resilient.  Using jojoba oil in conjunction with a healthy diet and light exercise will increase the effect it has on clearing skin and controlling acne breakouts.

Jojoba oil is very cheap. In fact, you can buy 4oz’s of good quality jojoba oil for under $10 on Amazon. Click the green link or the image below to check it out.
