Last week we discussed how to use apple cider vinegar for achieving beautiful hair and how to make an apple cider vinegar hair rinse. In today’s blog post we’ll be sharing how you can use ACV to get gorgeous and glowing skin, including a few recipes you can try at home.

Apple Cider Vinegar is made from crushed fresh, organically grown apples which are then left to age in wooden barrels. This raw, unpasteurized cider vinegar contains high levels of essential nutrients, amino acids, and enzymes which benefit the body in many ways.  However the more effective apple cider vinegar is not the clear variety you find in most stores, this contains no beneficial properties whatsoever.  The powerful properties are found in the natural organic variety which has a less than appetising murky brown tinge and floaters inside, such as Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. Now this stuff is your magic potion.

Why Use Apple Cider Vinegar For Your Skin?

Apple cider vinegar will help improve your overall complexion and condition of the skin.  It has the ability to do this because of its tonic action which helps promote blood circulation within the small capillaries that are responsible for irrigating the skin.  ACV contains high levels of lactic and malic acids which act as softening and exfoliating agents as well as reducing blemishes and treating acne.  This magical ingredient also contains alpha-hydroxy acids which help the skin renew itself at a quicker rate.

Apple cider vinegar has been proven to help restore the PH balance of your skin and assists in the optimal functioning of the skin.  It does this by warding off harmful bacteria and shedding dead cells at the appropriate rate to eliminate blocked pores resulting in healthy skin.

Apple cider vinegar has also been known to help reverse the effects of aging, the sulphur content in ACV will help minimize fine lines and age spots leaving the skin looking and feeling younger.  This natural powerhouse has the ability to dissolve excess fatty deposits on the surface of the skin and reduce peeling.

If you are suffering from severe and painful skin then ACV might very well come in handy, as weird as it sounds to put vinegar onto burns it will actually help relieve pain as well as preventing peeling and blistering.

Apple Cider Vinegar Skin Care Recipes

Apple Cider Vinegar Acne Treatment

This treatment will help prevent pimples, with antiseptic properties the honey and vinegar work together to kill germs, clear pores, dry excess oil, and calm the skin.  Honey also helps soothe and moisturize.

  • ¼ cup of raw honey
  • 1 cup of orange blossom water, rosewater, brewed green tea, or chamomile tea
  • ½ cup of apple cider vinegar
  • Few drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Whisk all ingredients together and then pour into a clean bottle.  Use cotton pads or balls to apply to your entire face each night before you go to bed.

Apple Cider Vinegar Facial Exfoliator

Apple vinegar mixed together with aspirin acts as a double exfoliating punch to help clear acne scars and smooth dry and bumpy skin.  Use this treatment daily to achieve a brighter and softer complexion.

  • 1/2 ounce of apple cider vinegar
  • 3 ounces of mineral water
  • 5 plain of aspirin tablets (uncoated)
Mix together apple cider vinegar and mineral water.  Crush up aspirin tablets using pestle and mortar then add to vinegar and water mixture.  Apply sparingly to areas with rough skin, acne, or enlarged pores.

Apple Cider Vinegar Skin Toner

This toner recipe will help restore the natural PH balance in the skin while the lavender helps soothe sensitive skin.

  • 2/3 cup of witch hazel
  • 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 2-5 drops lavender essential oil (or your favourite essential oil)
Combine all ingredients together and pour into a clean bottle.  Shake well before using, dampen a cotton pad with toner mixture and swab over entire face.

  1. This is a great looking site and since I’m a firm believer of nature’s potent power I do tend to try and exploit it to my advantage.

I use a lot essential oils for treatment and have at least a dozen of different oils. One thing I would recommend is to have at least a bottle of lavender essential oil in every household as this is the most versatile oil I have known!

I don’t want to abuse this page but I’ll tell you that one oil has done miracles for me. I have friends and families asking me either to advise them or concocting them some precious mixtures for them although I’m not an aromatherapist myself. I have been using them for more than 20 years now and I wouldn’t go anywhere without having at least a bottle with me..yep..LAVENDER ;)

  2. I started on my natural hair journey January, 2012. I am a stay home mom, and single parent. Every penny saved helps out. Great tips for natural divas, keep up the good work.

Thanks for these great recipes. I have struggled with acne now over 25 years. I just read a blog to infuse plantain in ACV for a few weeks and use it as a toner. I am going to give it a try.
