This worldwide phenomenon has created a huge response in the innovation of new products and ingredients that contain natural health benefits. This concept dates back through the generations but now boasts a strong presence in the beauty industry of today. It has motivated health enthusiasts to come up with skin care products and home remedies, using simple ingredients found in your kitchen cupboard. The reason this has become so popular is because of the price. This is a super affordable option providing the same health benefits of most traditional products found in stores. There are countless ingredients which have proven to contain beneficial elements for our body. This is where coffee comes in, it has antioxidant properties which stimulate awareness and keep us feeling fresh and alert. It contains many elements which help our skin to look and feel amazing. It has the ability to mend broken skin, soothe irritation, and revitalise cells. Coffee contains a free radical scavenger which helps to neutralize reactions caused by oxidation, which are the primary cause for conditions such as acne and eczema. It is known to be a gentle exfoliant which improves circulation, breaking up fatty deposits which we all know as dreaded cellulite. Because coffee has the same pH level as our skin it only makes sense that we utilise it in skin care products. Coffee also contains UV protectors which are self explanatory really; blocking out harmful rays from the sun helping us in the fight against premature ageing and skin cancer. The cleansing element of coffee is another beneficial factor; this cleanser takes away strong odours by neutralizing and absorbing. Maybe soon we will see deodorants and sprays with a hint of coffee extract? Now keeping in mind all these natural qualities, why not try these simple coffee skin care treatments you can create at home. Coffee Scrub • 2 cups of coffee grounds
• 2/3 tablespoon of vanilla extract or oil
• 1/ 3 tablespoon of sweet almond oil
• 1/ 2 cup of cane sugar
• Splash of cinnamon Mix these ingredients together in a bowl. Apply in the shower with your hands, rubbing in a gentle circular motion. The cane sugar and coffee combined provide an exfoliating effect, removing deposit build-up and dead skin cells, While the almond and vanilla oil leave your skin feeling soft, silky, and smooth. Coffee Face Mask • 3 tablespoons of used finely ground coffee
• A small glass of milk Mix ground coffee and milk together, blend well until you have a thick and creamy paste. If the mixture is too runny just add a little more ground coffee. Apply mixture onto your face and neck and smooth all over. Ensure you do not get any on your lips and avoid putting on your eyes. Massage into your skin and leave for 20 minutes. Remove mask from your face, continue to massage your skin while doing so. Apply face moisturizer to damp skin as this will lock in the moisture.
