Review of “The Metabolic Typing Diet” by William L. Wolcott

Every day there is another weight loss guru on the scene with the latest and greatest diet. We’re told to eat less, then to eat more. Eat meat, wait eat vegetables. Carbohydrates are the enemy, but you can eat good carbohydrates. Drink nothing but this special liquid every day for a week.

It becomes rather ridiculous after awhile. People who are desperate to lose weight jump from one fad to another. They lose a bit and then gain even more weight back. Some even make themselves very ill with some of the diets on the market now.

The hard, cold truth about diet and health has never changed and it never will. To maintain your weight you must eat the proper foods and burn as many calories as you take in. To gain weight (for health) you must eat the proper foods and burn fewer calories than you take in. And to lose weight you must eat the proper foods and burn more calories than you take in. Note that I mentioned the need to eat the proper foods. What are the proper foods? The answer is that the proper foods are different for each person. So how do you know what are the proper foods for you?

This is where “The Metabolic Typing Diet” by William L. Wolcott figures into the picture. In his book, he discusses how there are many factors that determine how we are affected by food and which foods are best suited to us as individuals. Based on the results of a few questions, Dr. Wolcott’s book indicates which metabolic type you are (how your body processes foods). Metabolic typing is based on many factors including blood type, ancestral heritage, biochemistry, race, geographic location, medical history, etc. For instance, someone who is descended from Eskimos is prone to thriving on a high fat diet, while someone descended from Asia is more likely to thrive on a diet of fish and rice.

When you eat the correct types of foods in the correct portions for your metabolic type you can:
