Secrets To Looking & Feeling Younger: Banish Bad Habits

July 5, 2008

This is one article in a 10 part series on how to look and feel younger naturally. This article reveals how stopping the bad habit of smoking can severely slow down the aging process and leave you looking and feeling healthier and younger.

There are many bad habits which contribute to aging you on the inside and the outside. The main one is smoking. In order to slow down the aging process, smoking needs to be stopped. Let’s look at the consequences of it.

Smoking is a major cause of skin damage and speeds up the formation of wrinkles and other unattractive features. A “smokers face” is often described as gray, pale and wrinkled. Smoking restricts blood flow to the capillaries preventing oxygen and nutrients getting to the skin. Smoking also boosts the supply of an enzyme which breaks down the collagen stores in the skin. Collagen is responsible for retaining the skin’s elasticity.

Smoking has a profound effect on aging us on the outside, but it is also responsible for aging the way we feel. Smoking is responsible for both cardiovascular difficulties and respiratory difficulties. It is also a leading cause of cancer. In order to look and feel younger smoking has to be stopped.

So, how do we do this?

Firstly, you need to prepare to quit. You need to set a date to quit, you need to tell others of your goal and remove all tobacco products from your home.

Once you’ve began to quit, you’ll need to learn to manage the cravings. When you get a craving take a shower, wash the dishes, have some gum or a piece of fruit, light a candle instead and learn to relax by taking deep breaths. Stay busy and you won’t experience cravings so often.

Your cravings will be triggered by certain things. Learning what these triggers are is important. Once you know what they are you can try to avoid them.

One thing’s for sure. Quitting smoking is not easy, but it can be done. It’s all a matter of will power. Have you got it?
