Food is life for humans. In recent years, the food we have consumed, instead of giving us life, has caused chronic illnesses and disease. The effects of time and age can be slowed down, and food is the best way to do this. Food is capable of nourishing our bodies, revitalising us, sky-rocketing our energy and make us look and feel younger in the process, too.
Here are some of the best foods to stay young and healthy on the inside and the outside.
Berries - strawberries, rasberries, blueberries and blackberries are stellar sources of vitamins and nutrients, as well as fibre. They are an excellent source of antioxidants, help to boost memory and are very kind to the waistline. Recently a new berry called Goji berries have been discovered and have been voted the number one fruit on the ORAC scale which measures the level of antioxidants in foods. If you can get your hands on Goji berries, then do so.
Citrus - not only do citrus fruits taste like a little drop of heaven, they also have endless health benefits for maintaining youth and vitality. Fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, lemon, lime and tangerines can be included under this category. Citrus fruits contains falvanoids which is a phytonutrient which lowers the body’s production of cholestrol and boosts the effect on vitamin C.
Tea - there are many different types of teas, each with their own individual health benefits. All teas contain polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants that can protect against heart disease, certain cancers and stroke. Green tea is packed full of antioxidants and often known as a miracle drink because of its endless health benefits.
Other power foods include oily fish, such as salmon, nuts and seeds, lean proteins, olive oil and of course vegetables.
For optimum health you should regularly consume all of these foods. Don’t forget to include water, too, to flush the toxins out of the body.
