Metabolism is the rate at which your body uses energy. A faster metabolism uses more calories. While dieting it is important to maintain or raise your metabolism, often times a low calorie diet can slow down your metabolism. There are several simple natural ways to speed up your metabolism.

Eat your breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. You are breaking a period of fasting. Your body raises your metabolism to process the food you have just eaten. It will no longer be at rest. This is a great way to start the day out with a faster metabolism.

Gain muscle mass. Muscles take more energy to maintain a day. You will burn more calories the more muscle that you have. Weight training exercise can help you build muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have the faster your metabolism.

Getting active is a great natural way to speed up your metabolism. Exercise such as running and aerobics will raise your heart rate. You will burn calories. Your metabolism will be faster during exercise and for a period afterwards.

A healthy diet full of nutrition fruits, vegetable and lean meats full of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs is important to metabolism rates. Ensure that your body has all that it needs to work at it optimal level.

There are herbs that can help. Cayenne, parsley, fennel, burdock and cinnamon are a few. These are all natural herbs and can be taken with relative amount of safety. You may want to talk to your primary health care provider before taking any supplements. Herbs can interact with other medications and have side effects.

Avoid all the gimmicks and pills that are floating around. There are natural ways to speed up your metabolism. Learning to work in harmony with your body and its cycles will help you maintain a healthy weight.
